Pine Management, Inc. derives the company values that have propelled our firm for three generations from founder Harold Pine’s legacy of hard work, honesty, and education. Following his lead, we have been able to forge the strong business relationships that have sustained our success in the New York real estate market. As a family-owned and operated business, it is a tradition of service and professionalism that we not only pass through the generations, but to the extended close-knit family of our colleagues at Pine Management, Inc.
Our history begins between 1951 and 1953, when Harold Pine – like so many other young men in their twenties at that time – served in the Korean War as a Marine. Returning home from the war, Harold was transitioning back to civilian life, which for him personally meant finding some type of work. These beginnings were humble; he took a job in 1955 as a paint salesman for S. Wolf’s & Sons selling Benjamin Moore paint throughout New York City.
Day in and day out, Harold called on prospective customers – hotels, contractors…anyone in the city whose walls could use a coat of color. Little did he know that at the heart of these routine business dealings would be the foundation for his future and the future of the Pine family. It is also the basis of the integrity of our firm’s relationships, for one never knows the fortuitousness of the people you meet.
From Harold’s sales contacts, the opportunity presented itself for him to purchase his first property in 1957 at age 26. The property was 21 West 70th Street and began Pine Management, Inc.’s storied history.
Seizing the opportunity, Harold obtained his degree from NYU in real estate. He worked tirelessly to achieve this important accomplishment; taking classes and studying in the evenings, while working full-time during the day to support himself and pay for his education. His hard work paid off – Harold was able to develop property ownership and an education into a business in 1961, forming Harold Pine Management.
In 1982, the second generation of the Pine family became involved in the business when Thomas Rohlman, now President, joined the firm.
The company was incorporated and became known as it is today as Pine Management, Inc. in 1985. Now, nearly 60 years and 38 buildings later, we’re proud to have three generations following in the footsteps of Harold Pine’s core values.
